LAVROFF George LAVROFF
1895-1991
Both a sculptor and a painter, Lavroff also was a drawer and a Russian designer.
In 1895, George LAVROFF (Georgui Dimitrievitch Lavrov) is born in Nazkmoï (Siberia), on April 18.
He takes D.I. Karatonov's lessons at Krasnoïarsk in 1912, then in 1915 goes to the medicine University in Tomsk but still goes to drawing and painting classes at the Artists' Society in Tomsk.
Then the October Revolution occurs in October 1917 and until 1920, George Lavroff fights in the 6th regiments of Azchipov/
In 1922, Lavroff can have his first orders in Moscow, which leads him to leave to Moscow in 1923 where he becomes a Member of the Revolutionary Russia Artist's Association. He takes part there in exhibitions and competes to monuments projects (he got the 5th price for Sverdlovsk in Moscow in 1924, and wins the Lenine competition in Poltava in 1925).
From 1927 to 1935, George Lavroff is away to France in order to improve and perfect his artistics skills as well as to carry Soviet art to his Communist French friends.
This stay in France will be his most prolifique and rich period for his art.
At that tiome, while carrying on his portraist carrer (shown in numerous Salons), George Lavroff will show his complete works of a Art Deco animal sculptor, the works that truly made him famous in Occident. These artworks are made out of bronze and ceramic for editors commands, including Guillemard's.
In 1935, Lavroff goes back to Russia, before (as an offical artist) taking part in monumental sculptures and important Soviet members busts. He also takes part in exhibitions and artistic Salons of the country.
And in 1982, there is an exhibition made for him in Moscow.
George Lavroff died on August 29, 1991.
