Biography: Konstantin Korovine
Russian Artist Russian Painter 1861-1939
Constantin Korovine (Константин Алексеевич Коровин)
was an impressionist painter born in Moscow in 1861 who died in Paris in 1939?
Korovine began his studies at the Architect Department at the Fine-Arts, Sculpture and Architecture Academy in Moscow. He became a pupil to A.K. Savrassov before becoming one of V.D. Polénov. From this time, he developed an impressionist sight of nature. He moreover managed to create a feeling of light, and did that before even seeing the French Impressionists artworks in 1893.
After a few trips to France (in 188-1892-1893), Korovine has been so strongly taken by impressionism that he did not take any more part in the Realistic style he sometimes used before.
In 1900, Constantin KOROVINE decorated the Russian Pavillion at the Universal Exhibition in Paris and got for that a Gold Medal. He also got the title of the Légion d'Honneur. Afterwhich he taught in Moscow and became the regular and appointed designer of the Imperial Theatres and the Bolchoï Theatre, before getting to work with Constantin Stnislavski (one of Moscow's Art Theatre's creator).
Korovine's friendship with Fédor Chaliapine (opera singer and amateur draughtsman) will last more than 30 years.
In 1923, Konstantin Korovine setlled in Paris thanks to Lounatchensky where he carries on working as a theatre designer and to paint landscapes, especially night scenes of Parisian Boulevards.
Korovine took part then in Russian Art exhibitions, but could display his own only in 1929 in Paris.
Our Artist Korovine has been one of the most brilliant and gifted repersentative of Russian impressionism, move which he remained faithful to until the end of the 30ies.
Unformtunately, worldly difficulties turn up and cloud the end of the Artist's life.
