Biography: Luigi Corbellini

Luigi Corbellini is born in Piacenza (Italia) on August 13, 1901, and died in New-York (United States) on May 9, 1968.

Luigi Corbellini learnt at the Brera Academy in Turin and the Albertina Academy in Milan.

Corbellini left Italy when he was 19 and became for three years chief of the lithography workshop at Desclee of Brouwer in Bruges (Belgium).

Luigi Corbellini came and settled in Paris when he was 22 and began working at Montmartre. At 28 he was famous, he made a building to put artists' workshops in, in Montparnasse, 6 Villa Santos-Dumont and began to exhibit his works quite regularly , especially at Durand-Ruel's.

After Worl War II, he went to the United States in order to show his works. His friend Durant-Ruel let him get acquainted with the New-Yorker Victor Hammer.

Corbellini exhibited at both places, alternatively, and exhibited also in other galleries in Paris, Los Angeles and San Francisco for example, as well as in South America (Venezuela and Brazil)... which made him a renown artist on that country.

Corbellini made one year long stays in many countries, in order to improve his paintings, even going to Mexico, Viet-Nam, Island Capri, Sweden... but Luigi Corbellini never went to Corsica, so that no confusion between François Corbellini and him could occur, as Françaois painted there.

Luigi Corbellini is mostly known as a kids' painter, thanks to his colourful palette, acquired in the USA.

The painter died in the United States, while getting an exhibition ready at Hammer's.

Let's say that Corbellini also was a great aquarelist.

His works are now at Museums in France, Italy and Switzerland, after being on Salons and showing at exhibitions.
