CIRIGOTI Nikolai Grigorievich CIRIGOTI /TSIRIGOTI

1864-1942

Nikolai Grigorievich Cirigoti was born in 1864. From 1882 to 1893 he studied at the Imperial Academy of Arts, informally known as Saint Petersburg Academy of Arts. At this time the Imperial Academy of Arts vigorously promoted the principles of Neoclassicism by sending the most notable Russian painters abroad, in order to learn the ancient and Renaissance art of Italy and France In the mid-19th century the Academism of training staff, much influenced by the doctrines of Dominique Ingres, was challenged by a younger generation of Russian artists who asserted their freedom to paint realistic subjects.

Since 1895 Nikolai Grigorievich Cirigoti exhibited with Itinerants and in different exhibitions.

In 1910 Nikolai Grigorievich Cirigoti became member of the Kuindzi Society. The Kuindzi Society was an art association, founded in 1909 on the initiative of and with the financial support from A.I. Kuindzi, its honorary chairman, in order to provide financial support to artists. The Kuindzi Society was situated at 17, Gogolya Street and enjoyed the Emperor Nicholas II’s patronage. The Kuindzi Society had a library and an art collection.
