Brita Granström was born in Sweden in 1969. She studied for an MFA at The University College of Art and Design in Stockholm, undertaking part of the course at Glasgow School of Art. Since then Brita has exhibited at Thompson’s Gallery in London,  with the Open Eye Gallery in Edinburgh, and Ainscough Contemporary Art in Dartmouth. Her illustrations feature in many publications and she has won several awards for these.

Brita now lives on the coast in Northumberland with her family. Her Nordic roots are self-evident in her paintings all made on location, both indoors and outdoors. Her landscapes to me almost seem like ‘weather paintings’, they envelop one in the windy scenes depicted. Aside from these coastal scenes, Brita is also well known for her intimate portraits of family life.
