Sonia Barton trained initially in Fine Art at Staffordshire University and then went on to train as a printmaker at Brighton. One can see that this training as a printmaker has affected the element of design in her painting, the paring back and simplifying of the image, and in the clarity of her composition.

Sonia is inspired by a collection of objects she has gathered over the years; ceramics, textiles, faded fragments of wallpaper and dried flowers. The arrangement of carefully chosen objects and the clarity and exuberance of her palette, are all hallmarks of her work. Working in acrylic, her chosen media, Sonia is able to rub back one layer of paint to reveal another, and then can add layers, creating the desired texture.

Sonia Barton exhibits at the Jerram Gallery, Ainscough Fine Art and McAllister Thomas.
