Born in 1972, Nicholas trained as an artist in Bristol, and was elected as a member of the RWA in 2003. He lives in Monmouthshire.

Nicholas Turner’s work is largely studio-based, prompted by both imagination and observed images, to invoke a sense of reflection and romanticism. It is the process of organising colour relationships and compositional design that fascinates Turner, whether working with themes based on landscapes or still life.

“The paintings of Nicholas Turner RWA reflect a gentle disposition, and a poetic modesty.  They are calm and unhurried, and hark back to a time of peace and tranquillity; subtle reminders of the fundamentals of life.  They are of the soul and spirit; harmony and rhythm; honesty and peace.”      Derek Balmer, President, RWA

We are huge fans of Nicholas’s work, it is both original and timeless, and beautifully executed. Working mainly in oil, he manages to create an unusual feel of chalky dryness, and layering, a feel unique to his work. What fascinates him is the process of organising colour relationships, and compositional design. His growing reputation is well deserved.

He has exhibited widely in the UK and in Europe, with his work now included in many public collections, including the Royal Collection, the permanent collection of the RWA and that of the Marquis of Bath, as well as many private collections across the UK, Japan, USA, Italy, and Israel. His paintings are often seen as having a calmness and have been described as being 'lyrical and wistful without sentimentality' (Simon Quadrat PPRWA).
