Clare Trenchard studied sculpture at the Chelsea School of Art where she graduated with a BA in Fine Arts in 1978. Since then she has exhibited in London, and at Slader’s Yard in Dorset. This is the first time that Clare has show at the gallery.
Clare works in clay, plaster and wax, and casts her work in either bronze or bronze resin. Based at their farm in West Dorset, Clare also runs regular drawing and sculpture courses in her large studio. She accepts commissions for both sculptures and drawings. It was a rare treat to thumb through her endless sketchbooks, filled with beautiful energetic drawings, evidence of the talent that underpins her work. Her drawings often producing the seed of fresh ideas for future sculptural projects.
“In 2025 I began developing a new series of drawings that explore the themes found in my sculptural work — the rhythm of human movement through space. These works often originate from sketchbooks filled with observations made during travels.
Using mixed media on paper, I build layers of line, paint, and collage to suggest presence and memory. The figures emerge and dissolve into the surface, their forms shaped as much by absence as by mark. These drawings are studies in structure and relationship — between people, between colour and tone, and between the seen and the implied. “ Clare Trenchard
Clare has exhibited widely in the UK and overseas. She regularly exhibits with us, Sladers Yard in Dorset, Will’s Art Warehouse in London, and most recently at Flying Colours Gallery in London.
